Young Tahoe Couple’s Hand Crafted Off Grid Cabin

   off grid living

Name: Tim Eddy and Hannah Fuller
Location: Tahoe, California
Size: 196 square feet
Years lived in: 1.5 years; Owned

Hannah grew up in a home her parents built (her father is a boat builder), so it was only natural for her to follow in their footsteps. Tim, on the other hand, has never built anything but fires. With that in mind, Tim and Hannah started out with 20 acres of land and no blueprints, and built one of the most impressive houses I’ve ever seen in my life — not to mention it’s fully off-the-grid.

I love this fun bottle opener. It takes the bottle caps for a fun little ride then collects them in a can. I can’t see how the actual opener works.

Like many remote cabins you sometimes don’t have the materials you need on hand. It pays to be creative as necessity is the mother of all invention. Metal cans work as flashing here to keep the water off the wood.

Wide angle lens in effect but I just love the color choice they used. They even painted some trim. I haven’t gotten around to painting anything yet!

Another great shot shows the uneven ground they’re on. Sounds familiar. They get lots of snow so it pays to be high above it.

Improvised cowboy foundation will probably last along time. If they ever want to replace it, it should be no prob at that height.

The interior looks bigger than you’d think.

The most beautiful part is that you built it yourselves. What a great place to live. The energy must be amazing.
